Maharashtra recognizes the Punjabi writer
Eminent Punjabi prose writer, Shiromani Punjabi writer, and folk singer, Sri Ninder Ghugianvi, has been appointed as “Resident Writer chair” at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, Maharashtra.
This honor has been given to a Punjabi writer for the first time by the University. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rajaneesh Kumar Shukla, while handing over the appointment letter to Ninder Ghugianvi, expressed his happiness and said that with his appointment at the University, activities related to Punjabi language, art, and culture will get a forward push.
He also exclaimed that it will be a matter of pride for the University to publish the literary works of the 47-year-old writer who has authored 57 books. Giving information in this regard, the registrar of the varsity, Kadar Nawaz Khan, said that Ninder Ghugianvi will write two books on literature and art while at the University, and students of the Department of Hindi Literature, Journalism, Art and Culture and Department of Immigrant Literature will be Lectured by him. His autobiographical book ‘Main san Judge Da Ardali’ will be translated into Marathi. This decision has been taken in the 75th academic council of the University.
It is noteworthy that Ninder Ghugianvi is the youngest writer to be appointed to the post. More than 20 scholar writers including Padma Vibhushan artist Habib Tanveer have been on this post and this post is considered to be equivalent to the post of Professor. Ninder will sow the seeds of Punjabi language art and culture in Maharashtra. This will be a rare contribution to the mother tongue by a humble writer.
Ninder, in his youthful years, has achieved numerous milestones in the field of Punjabi art, literature, and culture. His enormous contributions and works on Punjabi literature, Punjabi culture, Folk songs, and the Lifestyle of Punjabi folks and the Indian Judiciary have made a substantial impact in society. His initial years saw vicissitude, ups, and downs. His family circumstances did not support him to complete his matriculation. He was compelled to start his career as a peon. Be that as it may, graduation and post-graduation courses across the state of Punjab contain his works and students study his books as per the prescribed curriculum. Students from various universities, such as Punjabi University, Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Kurukshetra university, to name a few, have done a thesis on his numerous works. Varsities have been publishing his works all these years.
I feel pride in mentioning here that one of his works “Punjab De Lok Sangeet” (Folk Music Of Punjab) was published by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The government of India has also published his book “Folk music of Punjab”. In 2016, the CBSE has prescribed one of his creations for the 10th standard.
He has penned “Bal Vishav Kosh” for Punjabi University, Patiala in 4 Volumes, wherein he included the entries of Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan, Lata Mangeshkar, and Master Madan. His entries can also be seen in “Punjab Kosh”, published by the Department of Language, Punjab. Punjabi University, Patiala has published four of his books.
Ninder has contributed to films, documentaries, TV shows and radio talks. I came known to him in 2002 when I was posted as ADC at Faridkot. He asked me to play the role Judge of High court in his film titled Judge da Ardali. He has earnestly worked to empower various artists who were in despair and his efforts helped bring them into the mainstream of their arts. His list of achievements is immense, as he is an all-rounder . He is a radio broadcaster, Jalandhar doordarshan anchor, writer, translator, biographer, columnist and research scholar of innumerable art forms.His weekly columns can be accessed online and have been published in about 20 different countries.
Ninder has traveled across the globe to countries like USA, UK, Canada, and Australia learning about foreign cultures while also promoting his own culture overseas.
Ninder ghugianvi has the privilege of having been honored by high dignitaries like S.Giani
Zail Singh President of India in 1994, Mr. G Crechian Prime Minister of Canada in 2001, and Mr. Tony Blair Prime Minister of the UK in 2005. Presently, he is a guest faculty at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh, where he delivers lectures to the IAS/PCS officers. Punjab Govt recognized his works and awarded him with the State Award, 2013. He has also been awarded by the Punjabi Academy, Uttar Pradesh.
His prominent work “Mein Saan Judge Da Ardali” was translated into Telugu language Dr. Patan Rahim Khan in 2016. His autobiography was translated into 15 Indian languages and the National Book Trust of India, New Delhi, published its English translation.
The department of languages, where he served as a gardener in his struggling days, recognized him as a member of the State Advisory Board, honored him with shiromni author award and other honors and published his books. His life is an inspiration for youth, who aspire to achieve success overnight without any hard work through shortcut routes. He has come a long way from where he started with his sheer dedication and hard work.
His personality resembles a free flowing river and so his stories are like a whiff of the fresh air for his readers. This long journey of Ninder is a never ending one and he will add many more feathers to his hat in future. I can say it without any hesitation that he bleeds honesty into his work and his restless pen is on a mission to revive youth’s dwindling interest in punjabi language , art and culture. Ninder is down to earth man, a self
made person, architect of his own destinty which is why his work is so relatable and popular with people from all age groups and cultures.
