Book Review: Splinters of a Broken Mirror by Neelam Saxena Chandra
Splinters of a Broken Mirror by Neelam Saxena Chandra is a collection of fifty poems that radiate with positivity and zeal for life. The anthology starts with an inspirational poem, “The Spring Within You” and sets the mood of the readers. The ‘evening’ is personified in the next poem “The Inner Strength”. To understand the eccentricities of life you need to be sensitive and have a high level of understanding and each poesy touches a chord of the reader’s heart. The language is simple yet powerful. Each poem is unique in style and genre and yes, each poem evokes a razor-sharp reaction as the poet herself proclaims in “The Art of Writing Poetry”.
Some of the poetries have powerful imagery and cause an emotional response as they are relatable to the lives of the readers. Others are pure bliss and spiritual in nature. What I love about is the poet’s attempt to pack the most meaning into the fewest possible words. Most of the poems are short and crisp but leave a deep impact on your mind and soul.
The last poem “The growing up of a granddaughter” portrays the empowered today’s women and also the women of the past and their strong role in changing the patriarchal society. The poet’s ability to see into the heart of things makes her poems genuine and real. They flow without effort. No thought is superfluous or shallow. Each poesy is intense and profound.
Splinters of a Broken Mirror by Neelam Saxena Chandra is a must-read for all the lovers of good poetry.
