Fish was the father of life
Life begat darkness
From darkness came light –
The early forefather stars
And other colours
And their much later progeny-
Sun – also known as Ra
Who begat Karna –
The aural memory of History.
History begat giant balls of fire
Which cooled to bear water.
Water was the father of air –
Who begat heart.
Heart was the father of a mass
Covered by skin
Skin begat lizards and birds
And bats and many forgotten gods.
From these beings were born poems.
Poems begat pride
And pride begat humans
Who took part in the divine conception –
Of a misunderstood creature – gOD
Who begat earth and land and inadvertently
A poem called “Mending wall”.
This poem was soon forgotten
And in its place was born
Books that borrowed from other dead books
Books begat Jesus
Who lovingly begat two fishes
Who begat 5000, who begat life…
