O Ye Woman !
”A handsome woman is a jewel; a good woman is a treasure.”.wrote Saadi Shirazi. He obviously knew this ages ago. I have seen doors open automatically as a statuesque beauty sashays down a balustrade. The eyes of leering, lascivious, creepy gents, drop out of their sockets. Lewd remarks are as easily bandied about as oaths of lasting devotion to the beauteous being.
The alluring attraction, of merely physical beauty, can be devastating. One has heard of conniving, wicked, sultry sirens, ruining a person financially or even launching a thousand ships, a la Helen of Troy! ‘Khuda jab husn deta hai nazaakat aa hi jaati hai” .
What the good Lord gave you as a gift when he created your captivating visage is truly not your own achievement. It should make you more humble and thankful instead of snooty and pompous. It definitely is ‘sone pe suhaaga’, if the enchantress happens to be a good woman too .Now, that is what some of my friends would classify as ,” yaar lottery nikal gayi , bande ki.”
A pretty face will get old, and a nice body will change but a good woman will always be a good woman. Therefore, it is said that if you do not care for the good women in your life , someone else will come along and appreciate them, or you might have to deal with (though I cringe to write it ), the”bitch” that you created.Keep her head close to your heart to love her, put an arm around her to protect her .Don’t let her shed tears for you will have to account for each drop .

Men may think it’s a woman’s last resort
Little do they know what stern clay
the apparently weaker sex are made of,
The essential condensed emotion squeezed out
Of those limpid pools of nectar is pure holy water
No crocodile is ever acquainted with its potency
The first freshly squashed drop of virginal dew
Hovering inside the Kohl lined eyelids
The doe timidly fluttering her eyelashes
is no simpering baby doll
She is trying very hard to keep her liquid gold safely inside
Willing desperately to stop it from spilling on terra firma
Hearts that are statues of smoking stone
Impervious to shows of such wimpish emotional outbursts
Men roll their eyes, turn away and exclaim “not again !”
It’s not a weapon,it’s not a ruse
It’s the violated 10 year old’s suppressed sobs
It’s the abused wife’s black and blue welts
It’s the war widow’s bucketful
It’s the grief crazed mother’s dead son
It’s the end of the tether
It’s the height of a trauma
It’s the bursting of a rain suffused cloud
It’s the crashing of a crescendo
It’s a woman’s teardrop
The tantalizing aura of a seductress should fade in the face of a ‘naik ‘ lady.
Akbar Allahabadi seemed to be making a relevant observation in his smilingly written verse
“be purdah kal jo aayin nazar chand bibiyaan
Akbar zamin mein ghairat e qaumi se ghad Gaya
poochha jo unse aapka parda woh kya hua ,
kehne lagin ki aqal pe mardon ki pad gaya”.
A strong lady is an asset for a lifetime. Remember John Steinbeck saying -“I believe a strong woman may be stronger than a man, particularly if she happens to have love in her heart.I guess a loving woman is indestructible.”
She believes that ”ehna akhiyaan ch paanvaan kinve kajlaa ve , akhiyaan ch tu vasda.”.I’m desperately trying to emulate the lady in this song sung mellifluously by Asa Singh Mastana
Balle ni punjab diye sher bachiye sheeshe vaangu saaf ,suchiye te sachiye
