Pathaan – Movie Review
SRK Looks His Age But Proves Why He Rules B Town
Watched Pathaan with no expectations. Trailers had already given some insight and had prepared me for what is ahead.
Reviews from friends were mixed. Now it was me who had to decide.
So my verdict is that the movie is slick and crisp. It’s action genre, which many Indian moviegoers can’t identify with – especially if it’s the movie of romance king Shah Rukh Khan.
Swag And Suspense
Pathaan is a spy thriller, which expands YRF’s spy universe. Actions are of next level and meet Hollywood standards certainly.
To be sure, Pathaan is all about swag and suspense – the combo of everything that you expect from a spy thriller made in Bollywood. It doesn’t star Tom Cruise but the Indian superstar who is no less than Cruise!
All three main characters of Pathaan look impressive. Me being an SRK fan can forgive him even seven murders (read 7 Khoon Maaf).
He looks his age and yet proves why he rules B town.
SRK has that endearing quality because of which every character looks relatable. He is charismatic as a spy and carries the film well.
John The Show Stealer
The show stealer is John, who as the anti-hero, gives his best to be a dangerous criminal mastermind. In his best moments, he sends chills and shivers down your spine. You crave to see more of him. If Siddharth Anand makes a prequel or a sequel to Pathaan, he must make sure that John is part of it.
Deepika isn’t just eye candy
You have to say this for the female lead of the movie – she isn’t just eye candy. Deepika has a meaty role in the action-packed storyline. I was never a fan of her acting prowess earlier; she’s steadily getting better.
Dimple’s performance is heartwarming.
Once my son gave me the reason why he chooses Hollywood movies any day over Bollywood movies. He said they are so good and thorough that you will never feel that the individuals there are acting.
I had the same feeling watching Pathaan. Thankfully, it is fast paced with no dull moments. VFX, tech, action and dance sequences, the look of each character – all is paisa vasool.
An Average Movie, Finally
Despite all these pluses, I will rate Pathaan as an average movie. You don’t come back and feel like remembering anything. What stands out most is the hype around it. You never know what will click with the Indian audience. SRK’s comeback or the curiosity created by the controversy over the song Besharam rang.
One thing is for sure. This movie has given hope to Bollywood, which seemed to be at the risk of extinction because of the boycott by the hate brigade. Rs 600 crores and still going strong.
Hail SRK!
